Playstation 2 InformationPlayStation 2 is one of the most famous video game consoles in the world. It won’t be far-fetched to say that of all the consoles in the history of video games, Sony’s PlayStation 2, known as PS2 has recorded the most success. They sold approximately 155 million units across the globe. Their longevity was amazing, considering the fact that the first set of units came out early 2000 and they produced the last set about a decade after in 2012.The console’s extraordinary success can be attributed to certain factors. They took advantage of the momentum from the first PlayStation, which successfully captured the adult game market. Even though started 128-bit generation before them, the PS2 was closely behind them and even had better hardware capability. In addition, it was actually the first game to introduce DVD media, which turned out to be a great marketing idea considering the fact that it was introduced at a time when a lot of families used DVDs – Sony gave buyers an opportunity to enjoy their movies and game in one device. With the inclusion of the DVD device, adults could now have consoles in their sitting rooms, unlike when they had to tuck it away in the basement or in the kid’s room. The “Emotion Engine” was one of the biggest marketing points in the early days of the PS2.

This was the nickname given to the central processor of the console. It was a powerful and innovative design, specially optimized for 3D gaming. Just like the PlayStation, Sony put a lot of effort into making it friendly for third-party designers. That’s not to say a console is only about marketing and hardware. When it comes down to it, its game line-up is out of this world and the PS2 with its library of more than 1,800 original titles will probably be considered the strongest in the history of gaming. Almost all the genres have at least one or two hit tittles. Although the titles launched in 2000 were just average, 2001 came with some hit titles that put the PS2 at the top of the market: Gran Turismo 3, Crash Bandicoot, Final Fantasy X, A-Spec, Jak and Daxter, Metal Gear Solid 2: And the biggest of them all is The Wrath of Cortex.Although they were not really part of the plan when they launched the console, the inclusion of the Firewire ports and USB turned out great. The Rock Band series and the Guitar Hero also turned out to be huge sellers.

Although devices such as the Eye Toy were more a niche market than anything, they actually laid the foundation for other motion-controlled and camera-based systems for the next consoles released. In the course of its lifetime, the PS2 witnessed the release of different form factors, but the “slim” and “fat” cases are the two major variants. The slim case was first released in 2004, with a lower profile and a hard drive expansion bay that weighed significantly less. You should note that not all games require an expansion hard drive and the Final Fantasy XI is one game that uses it.At the end of the day, the PS2 turned out to be a console that had something that everyone could enjoy, which is probably why it is one of the best-selling games in history. Most of the genres have amazing titles, and retro enthusiasts in particular, will pay anything for this line-up.

Though you can hardly go wrong with this console, some of its strong suits include sports, open-world sandbox titles, racing and Japanese RPGs. And Roms can be easily found on our website and you can play any of the most popular on your home computer, laptop or even mobile platform with the help of emulator, which can also be found on our website.

I still swear by my trusty PS2 when traveling for work - what's better when you're stuck in a hotel in the middle of nowhere then cranking up some Gallop Racer 2006?The mode you want to play in is 'Theme Park Mode' - this is basically GR06's version of career mode. You enter your name and design your silks (the uniform your jockey wears). You can alter difficulty and control layout.

Then go to 'Title Collection' because this is where you race. I recommend choosing a turf horse with a distance of at least 8-12 as you need to win horse titles to unlock more races and more horses, and the 'Triple Crown' is all turf races in your 3rd year from 8f-12f. So a good horse to start with is in the second column (special) and his name is Sacred Ridge. He's good on turf, has a distance of 8f-12f, and has normal development so he should be peaking during the Triple Crown races.

He also has a high 'feel' score (control) so he should be easy to race starting out. I do not recommend racing him after his 4th year as his skills will start to decline heavily. He costs $8800 to race which is less than the $10k you start out with in the game.So when it's time to stop racing a horse, hit 'retire' and see how much in earnings you have. Hopefully you will have raced well and unlocked more breeding horses and horse titles to earn. Then you go back to the stable and you can breed two horses together, which is a whole different topic.Enjoy! This game is really great overall.SPOILER AHEAD-I really like the breed barn/foal feature in this game. In Gallop Racer 2003 you had to first race a horse until the end of it's viable career, retire it, then breed it with another horse you raced until the end of it's viable career, wait for the foal to be born, wait for the foal to become old enough to train, train the foal as successfully as you can, then if the foal turned out somewhat decent you can actually race it and possibly win some races. However, in Gallop Racer 2006 you are given a bit more freedom and the ratings are more generous when it comes to the foals. Now when you go to the breeding barn, you pick out both parents from a list of horses that you have probably raced before (if you played previous versions of Gallop Racer), their ratings are the same or nearly the same as before, and once you breed them the foal is immediately available for use.

The foal is already trained to the best of it's ability and all you need to do is be able to afford it. It is (to me) way easier than the 2003 version of the game-however that can be a drawback to those who enjoyed that challenge to the 2003 version. Now, the downside to this game (or at least, what I see as a downside) is that you can only own/race one horse at a time. Technically you have around 100 slots for foals you have bred in your breeding barn. When it comes to owning and racing one though, you can only have one at a time and you can't retire the horse until you have reached it's minimum potential (so if you want to try a horse out for just a race to see if you would like it, save on separate files so you can reload elsewhere). When playing this game I miss the 2003 version where you can race more than one horse in your stable. So, there is both my most positive and most negative points of view regarding this specific game. Overall, this is a really great game and fans of the Gallop Racer games may like this specific game quite a lot since it does have subtle reminders of the very first Gallop Racer game. I had a lot of fun playing this game.

The graphics are a lot better than most other horse games I've played and the makers of the game did a good job. It's mostly about breeding a better horse but I really liked the fact that every horse has a different running style and the horses gain more speed etc when you ride them really good. The game gets kind of boring after you win the Dream Cup and Dream Series special races and unlock everything though but it takes a while to get there and there's still breeding for the elusive white horse. Racing over and over again can also get kind of boring and so does the fact that you can only race one horse at a time so I gave it a 4 for fun. The game itself though is definitely 5 stars. It gives you everything but training (in a way).

You can breed your horses (you can own up to 100), race them, bet and you have a free mode you can customize horses in.
